Mark Eagan, CCE tapped to succeed retiring Taylor
(Albany) – The Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors has elected Mark Eagan, CCE to serve as its new president and CEO. He will officially begin on October 7.
Eagan succeeds Lyn Taylor, who announced earlier this year that she would be retiring from the Chamber to spend more time with her family and pursue other interests. Taylor will remain with the Chamber through the year to support Eagan’s transition.
A 21-year veteran of the chamber profession, Eagan has served as president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of St. Joseph County in South Bend, IN since 1998. Under his leadership, the chamber expanded member offerings, increased its advocacy efforts and addressed key issues to ensure the economic competitiveness of the region.
A native of Massachusetts, Eagan previously led chambers of commerce in Mansfield and Brockton, MA.
Eagan is a leader within the national chamber of commerce movement. He currently serves as chairman of the board of American Chamber of Commerce Executives, an association that represents more than 6,000 chamber professionals in the United States and Canada.
In addition, Eagan is past president of the Massachusetts and Indiana associations for chamber of commerce executives and past chairman of the Institute for Organization Management Board of Regents. He was named Chamber Executive of the Year by the New England Chamber Association in 1996 and by the Indiana Chamber Executives Association in 2006.
“The board of directors is pleased to announce the selection of Mark Eagan as the Chamber’s incoming president and CEO,” said Mike Keegan, president of M & T Bank and the Chamber’s incoming board chair. “His experience in chambers of commerce in Indiana and his native Massachusetts, combined with his leadership on the state, national and international levels, made him a logical choice to guide the Chamber and expand its vision for business throughout Tech Valley.”
“I am energized by the opportunity to join the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber,” Eagan said. “Under Lyn Taylor’s leadership, the Chamber has developed a strong track record of accomplishment. I look forward to working with the volunteer leadership, membership, staff and greater community to ensure that we maximize opportunities for economic growth.”
“This was a difficult search for us because of where the bar was set and we had high expectations of finding a candidate that could continue the chambers momentum,” said Mike Hickey, president of Pitney Bowes Business Insight and chair of the Chamber’s board of directors. “We are ecstatic and fortunate to have met our objectives with Mark. His leadership and accomplishments within the field are exemplary.”
Eagan holds a bachelor’s degree from Stonehill College and a Certificate in Executive Leadership from the University of Notre Dame. He is a graduate of the Institute for Organization Management at the University of Delaware and the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, NC. He earned the professional designation of Certified Chamber Executive (CCE) in 1997.
