Highlights of the day include the 17th Annual Columbus Parade down Western Ave and a celebratory Italian Festival in Washington Park. Don’t miss this festive celebration of Columbus Day in Albany!
Columbus Day Parade
- The parade steps off at 1 pm and continues rain or shine!
- The Columbus Parade starts down Western Avenue from Ontario Street at 1 pm, continuing down Western Ave to Robin Street and into historic Washington Park.
- Leading this year’s parade as Honorary Grand Marshal is Albany’s Fire Chief Robert C. Forezzi, Sr.

October is National Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender History Month and the Albany Public Library will be participating with a Film Festival featuring a series of notable films selected in collaboration with The Capital District Gay and Lesbian Community Council.
Friday, October 10, 1PM , In & Out. Winner of the GLAAD Outstanding Film Award, 1998. Respected teacher Howard Brackett has everything going for him and is soon to be married. Then a famous actor and former student makes an acceptance speech after receiving an Oscar for playing a homosexual army soldier and ‘outs’ Brackett as his inspiration. Howard desperately tries to keep his life from falling apart by and says it’s a simple misunderstanding. While most of the townspeople want to believe Howard, an openly gay TV reporter only adds fuel to the flame. (Rated PG-13, 90 minutes.)
