The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County is offering a seminar series designed especially for individuals who are thinking about starting their own business or have just begun the process.

“Traditionally, when the economy appears uncertain, individuals with an entrepreneurial spirit decide to shape their own destinies and start a new business. The Chamber wants to give those new entrepreneurs the knowledge they need to avoid the costly mistakes that many people make when they are just starting out”, said Peter Aust, President & CEO of the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County.

HOW TO USE YOUR TELESCOPE
To be held at the Pinebush Discovery Center, 195 New Karner Road, Albany, New York 12205 on March 7th from 4 – 6 pm. The workshop will include inside instruction and outside viewing (if clear!) The cost is $20.00 per telescope (free to members of Dudley and friends of Pinebush Discovery Center). The workshop is being offered through Dudley Observatory, please call Dudley at 382-7583 to reserve your spot and advise the manufacturer and model number of your telescope.

Does the night sky fascinate you? Would you like to gaze at planets, star clusters, and galaxies through a telescope? Would you like to show these wonders to other astronomy lovers?
The Dudley Observatory is looking for STUDENT AND TEACHER INTERNS. We will teach you to find your way around the night sky, and to use a telescope to observe interesting celestial objects at public star parties.
Each intern who fulfills the program requirements will be awarded a telescope to keep, so that they will have the equipment, as well as the knowledge and experience, to enjoy this as a life-long quest.
The Rising Star Internship Program is open to students currently in 7th through 10th grade and teachers at all levels. Applications will be accepted until March 1st. Winners of the internships will be announced in mid-April.

ALBANY HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER, VINCENT AMODEO ELECTED PRESIDENT OF DUDLEY OBSERVATORY, EMPHASIZES DUDLEY’S SCIENCE EDUCATION MISSION
Annual elections of Officers were held on January 13, 2009 at a regular meeting of the Board of Trustees. Mr. Vincent Amodeo, Albany High School Science Teacher, was elected to the position of President of the Dudley Board. Mr. Amodeo has been a Trustee for two years and has been an active member of the Education Committee and, in addition, chairs the Curriculum Committee. The election of Mr Amodeo, the first public school teacher to serve President, underscores Dudley’s primary mission in science education.

(Colonie), February 9, 2009 — Community Resource Federal Credit Union, in association with the Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club (HMRRC), will host the 4th Annual Community Resource Father’s Day 5k Run on Sunday, June 21 to benefit Capital District Community Gardens. The road race will be held at the Crossings, which is located at 580 Albany Shaker Road in Colonie. This year, there will be children’s events including face painting, crafts, and races organized by age level.

The Credit Union is looking for local businesses, organizations, and individuals who are willing to sponsor this family-oriented event that attracts hundreds of runners and spectators. Sponsorships range from $50 to $250. The deadline for sponsorship is April 15. For more details or a sponsorship application form, call Wendy Meola at 783-2211, extension 225.

Chamber to celebrate Quadricentennial at Annual Dinner

(Albany NY) – The Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce is asking for your vote. In celebration of the region’s Quadricentennial, the Chamber has compiled a list of some of the area’s most influential events of the past 400 years. The Chamber is asking Capital Region residents to vote on which milestones have had the biggest impact on our region.

Only one vote per person is allowed. Voting is open to the public and will be open through Thursday, Feb. 26.
