Albany, New York – Mayor Jerry Jennings and the City of Albany are pleased to announce the musical line up for the 2009 Alive at Five Concert Series. This series of free, outdoor concerts is celebrating its 20th year of FREE musical performances.
Thursday evenings from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. downtown Albany heats up with lively music – a different theme each week! Food and beverage vendors complete the scene for a great way to start your weekend. In 2009, an additional week will be added to the schedule, to offer residents & visitors 11 weeks of FREE summer concerts along the Hudson River.

Students from area schools recently competed during a live model casting call at Colonie Center and were selected to be fashion models at our upcoming Spring/Summer Show. This is one of the largest fashion events in the Capital Region and will showcase over 65 models with ages ranging from 5 to 21, who all have an interest in modeling. Colonie Center hosts events like this throughout the year, as a way to introduce modeling to interested kids, foster self esteem and confidence building, as well as introduce them to the fashions available for purchase at their center. These models get fitted with hot fashion looks, and many receive make-overs prior to the show. All models are trained on professional modeling routines prior to the show. Albany, New York - Mayor Jerry Jennings, the City of Albany and CDTA are offering transportation options to the annual Albany Tulip Festival.
In partnership with the City of Albany, CDTA is offering a free CDTA iride shuttle on their hybrid diesel electric buses to travel to the 2009 Tulip Festival on May 9th and 10th in Albany’s Washington Park. Shuttle will be available continuously from 12pm-6:30pm at Eagle St. garage & Elk St. parking lot and will drop off/pick-up at Henry Johnson Blvd & State Street. A STAR shuttle will also be available at Thurlow Terrace/handicap parking off of Western Ave. The City of Albany is also providing bike racks near the Wellness Garden, at Willett & Madison Streets, to encourage bicycle travel to the festival.

(Albany) – During the graduation event for the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Entrepreneurial Assistance Program (EAP) course, Sunmark Federal Credit Union and the Chamber presented a $1,000 check to Alfredo Rivera-Arizpe, owner of Tex-Mex restaurant Macho Nachos, for winning the program’s business plan competition. In addition, Rivera-Arizpe earned a complimentary Chamber membership for one year.
Thirteen Capital Region entrepreneurs successfully completed the program, specially designed for growing businesses. The entrepreneurs graduated from the Chamber’s spring EAP training course during a ceremony on May 5 at the Chamber’s Albany office.
Joe Mahota, owner of architectural firm Mahota Associates, won the second prize of a color printer from Repeat Business Systems.
