Non-profit Group Announces Applications for 2009-2010 Educational Institutes
Albany, N.Y. — The Young Philanthropists Institute and the Arts Ambassadors Institute – initiatives of The Stakeholders, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to cultivating an informed and active creative class and diverse, sustainable communities throughout the Capital Region – invite applications from community members under the age of 45 who are interested in hands-on learning experiences through the arts, culture and community resources in the region.
Entering its second year, the Young Philanthropists Institute is for individuals who want to contribute their resources (e.g. time, talent, treasure) to charitable causes. Monthly workshops on non-profit needs, board membership, financial planning and planned giving, ethics, fundraising, grant writing and more are led by the area’s top non-profit and philanthropic leaders. The sessions inform participants as they craft their own personal philanthropy plans and identify opportunities to contribute to community organizations as board members, volunteers and donors.
New this year, the Arts Ambassadors Institute is for community members who want to enrich their understanding and appreciation of the arts. Participants will gain an intimate knowledge of the arts in the Capital Region via monthly field trips highlighting different artistic disciplines, cultural venues and cities, including “behind the scenes” discussions with visual artists, performers and arts administrators. Through these activities, members of the Arts Ambassadors Institute will learn how to support cultural organizations as board members, audiences and patrons.
“The stewardship of the Capital Region’s cultural, community and arts organizations is as critical to economic and quality-of-life-issues as the growth of the area’s technology and other for-profit sectors,” said Catherine Hedgeman, president and CEO of The Stakeholders. “Through educational and capacity-building programs like the Young Philanthropists and Arts Ambassadors Institutes, The Stakeholders is bringing the emerging generation together with established leaders to build a sustainable Capital Region that is a preferred destination for living, working and entertainment.”
Admission to the Young Philanthropists and Arts Ambassadors Institutes will be through an application process, reviewed by The Stakeholders Board and an advisory board of leaders from the philanthropic and arts communities. Community members interested in applying for the Young Philanthropists or Arts Ambassadors Institutes are encouraged to attend an information session on Tuesday, June 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The Opalka Gallery on the Sage College of Albany campus, 140 New Scotland Avenue. Workshops begin in September. For more information, visit www.thestakeholders.org.
