ALBANY, N.Y. (May 17, 2010) — Angel Names Association is recruiting volunteers to participate in the 22nd annual Freihofer’s Community Walk slated for Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 12:30 p.m.
The event, which begins and ends outside the New York State Museum in Albany, provides an opportunity for more than 80 regional non-profit organizations to raise funds through walk pledges.
Funds raised by walkers at this year’s event will be used to support ANA’s programs that provide financial assistance for families who endure the tragedy of stillbirth, and funding for stillbirth research.
Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. at the bus terminal in the Community Walk registration area located on the Concourse Level of the Empire State Plaza. T-shirts will be given to the first 1,000 walkers who arrive, and all participants will receive a delicious box of Freihofer’s chocolate chip cookies.

TROY FOOD CO-OP TO OPEN IN FALL 2010, CONSTRUCTION BEGINS JUNE 1
Troy-The revitalization of Downtown Troy took a major step forward with today’s announcement by the Troy Community Food Cooperative that it has taken title on the property that will become its home: the former Pioneer Food Market, at 77-81 Congress Street. The community has come together as member-owners of the Co-op to raise over $230K in equity and loans in the current tough economy to meet their needs for access to food. Construction at the $2.5 million project begins on June 1. The store is scheduled to open Fall 2010.

2009 All-America City Quilt Arrives in Albany NY

Albany, New York – Mayor Jerry Jennings, the City of Albany and members of the All America City Delegation unveiled the 2009 All-America City Quilt on Wednesday, May 5 at Albany City Hall Rotunda.
The 2009 All-America City quilt features squares representing the communities that were finalists for the 2009 All-America City Awards. The Quilt will travel throughout the country to each of the finalist communities for a week of display.
The All-America City quilt will be on display in City Hall Rotunda May 5 – 7, and at the Albany Visitors Center May 8 -11, 2010.

(Albany) – Fifteen Capital Region entrepreneurs have successfully completed the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Entrepreneurial Boot Camp, formerly the Entrepreneurial Assistance Program (EAP), specially designed for start-ups and growing businesses.
The entrepreneurs graduated from the Chamber’s spring Entrepreneurial Boot Camp training course during a ceremony on April 27 at the Chamber’s office.
During the event, Sunmark Federal Credit Union and the Chamber presented a $1,000 cash grant and a complimentary Chamber membership for one year to David Cook and Henry Kolakoski of Professional Emergency Planning, for winning the program’s business plan competition.
Business partners Erin Jones and Alyson Russo of Aristo won the second prize of a $500 cash grant and 10 hours of consulting [...]
