Fall Family Farm Day Is Free Event Oct. 17 at Frost Valley Y
Claryville, NY — Frost Valley YMCA will host its annual Fall Farm Day on Sunday, Oct. 17 from 1-4 p.m. at its farm property near Claryville.
The Fall Family Farm Day is free and provides an opportunity for visitors of all ages to enjoy some old-fashioned fun.
The day’s activities will include: meeting and petting the animals at Frost Valley’s working farm, hay rides, a hay bale maze, scarecrow-making, live music and candle-making.
Among the refreshment choices will be Frost Valley’s famous chili, hamburgers and hot cocoa.

14th Annual Quilting Weekend Oct. 29-31 at Frost Valley Y
Claryville, NY – Frost Valley Y will host its 14th annual Fall Quilting Weekend from Friday-Sunday, Oct. 29-31.
This popular program offers opportunities for quilters of every ability level. Five of the region’s foremost quilting experts will lead workshops.
Kathleen Davies’ class it titled “Chop Suey.” This workshop is suitable for the advanced beginner. Participants will create a project by piecing small blocks that appear complicated, but aren’t. The end result is a quilt top made to any desired size.

Albany Symphony Performance to Feature Collaboration with Capital Repertory Theater on Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Unique concert underscores ASO’s commitment to innovative programming and new works
(ALBANY, NY) – The Albany Symphony will present the second performance of its 80th Anniversary-Carnegie Hall Season with a special collaboration with Capital Repertory Theater, highlighting a program that includes Mendelssohn’s incidental music to Shakespeare’s comedy: A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The program also includes three new works by young composers inspired by the works of William Shakespeare. The concert will be held at 7:30PM on October 21 at the new Arthur Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, and on October 22, 7:30PM at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.

ALBANY/SCHENECTADY (Sept. 27, 2010) — Two local fitness instructors want people in the Capital Region to kick off their shoes while they work out.
“Our bodies evolved a long time before we invented running shoes,” said Jes Constantine, group exercise instructor at Best Fitness in Albany and Schenectady. “So padded running shoes might feel comfortable to work out in, but they actually interfere with the natural movement of your muscles and can lead to serious injury.”
Because most running shoes have very thick padded heels, people tend to incorrectly thrust from the heel instead of thrusting from the ball of the foot, which is how we are supposed use our feet, Constantine said. ALBANY, NY (September 19, 2010) - Heroes from around the Capital Region will converge on Washington Park Sunday September 26 for the 14th annual AIDSWalk and a hero-themed 5K Run.
AIDSWalk and 5K Run kick off at 1:00PM with live entertainment including music and dance performances. The USATF sanctioned, chip-timed 5K Run and Community Walk begin at 2PM, starting and finishing in front of the Lake House. An awards ceremony follows, along with an opportunity to be a part of a group AIDS ribbon photo.
