SCHENECTADY, NY — A call for artists has been issued for a spring art show, “Rebirth! The Coming of Spring” scheduled for Sow’s Ear Studio & Gallery from March 18 – April 29. Artists wishing to be considered for the salon show will find the prospectus by clicking “Call for Artists” on the web site www.sowsearstudio.com. Submissions must be received by February 25, 2011.
Patrons may purchase the work at the conclusion of the show. One artist will be selected to receive a unique “award.” The chosen artist will be invited to present his or her own solo show to be scheduled at Sow’s Ear at a mutually agreed upon date.

Ms. Miller, will lead the School’s already successful efforts in fundraising and enrollment. She will oversee public relations and advertising, and outreach to prospective families and students, as well as to current and prospective donors.
Ms. Miller is a senior fundraiser and manager, with extensive experience with capital campaigns and direct solicitation of donors. She has significant experience in annual giving, major gifts, estate and planned gifts, working with alumni, parents, friends, corporations and foundations. She has been an Associate Director and Director of Admissions for Cornell University in the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences. She brings experience in enrollment management, identifying and recruiting students, marketing and public relations.

Countdown to National Consumer Protection Week 2011 Begins; Website and Blog Launched
The Federal Trade Commission has launched the website and blog for National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW) 2011, to be held March 6-12. The annual event, now in its 13th year, is hosted by the FTC and nearly 30 other government agencies, consumer groups, and national organizations. The website, www.ncpw.gov, provides information about consumer rights, and promotes free resources to help consumers protect their privacy, manage credit and debt, avoid identity theft, understand mortgages, and recognize frauds and scams.
Consumer experts will provide blog posts on a wide variety of subjects. The Consumer Topics section of the website has print and video resources to read, view, download, print, copy, and share.

All of the kids who participate, competitive boxers or just those learning fitness and self-discipline, are working a little harder this time of year. Orchestra invites region to commemorate Music Director David Alan Miller in special concert
(ALBANY, NY) – The Albany Symphony will hold a special “birthday bash” concert to honor and celebrate Maestro Miller’s 50th Birthday. Miller, a Capital Region celebrity and celebrated innovator has thrilled area audiences young and old for 18 years in his position as the Albany Symphony’s Music Director and conductor. Maestro Miller has designed his “birthday bash” program to showcase the kind of wild creativity he adores – including a legendary Portuguese guitar ensemble, the orchestra’s groundbreaking ‘Dogs of Desire’ new music ‘band,’ a symphony by Beethoven, as well as other special surprises. SCHENECTADY, NY — Glass artist, Cheryl Gutmaker’s show, “Functional & Fanciful” opens with a reception at Sow’s Ear Studio & Gallery, 1597 Union St., Schenectady on Friday, January 28, from 5-8pm. Ms Gutmaker’s work is inspired for her passion for the interplay of light with the myriad of color, shape and texture afforded by glass. The added element of being utilitarian as well as whimsical is a bonus feature of most of her pieces. She has studied at The Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass and with master glass artists including Loren Stump, Caitlin Hyde, Suellen Fowler, Margaret Neher, and Kathleen Sheard to name a few.
