The Joyful Quilter in Glenville has expanded into a 4000 sq. ft. store. We’re in the same plaza but now have our own building. We’ve doubled our size to include two spacious classrooms. More space, more fabric, more books and notions to better serve the quilting community!

Albany, NY – The Albany Tulip Festival Committee is seeking crafters for the Craft Show at the 63rd Annual Albany Tulip Festival on May 8 & 9, 2011, outdoors in Washington Park, Albany, New York. Annual attendance for the weekend event is approximately 80,000.

Application deadline for craft vendors is Friday, February 11, 2011.

Standards: Work must be original, handcrafted, expertly executed and completely finished. Unacceptable work includes: ceramics from commercial molds, cut bottles and kits. No representatives or stores representing artists or craftspeople may apply. No manufactured products or art and craft supplies may be displayed or sold at this show.

About Photos: Each applicant must submit 4 digital photos on CD. All images should be a minimum of 300 dpi, and sent as a .jpg file. Three photos must be representative of your work and one [...]

High School students throughout the Capital Region are invited to submit an essay to the 2nd Annual Albany Tula Alliance Essay Contest.

Students aged 16 to 18 who wish to compete will be asked to write a 1,500 word essay on the role that the space race to might play in maintaining world peace and technological cooperation. The deadline for submission is March 1, 2011 and the winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony in Albany in May. At that ceremony, the winners will be greeted by Russian Cosmonaut Sergey Zalyotin, who is coming to the Capital Region as part of the Albany-Tula’s 20th Anniversary celebration. Captain Zalyotin, who was born and raised in the Capital Region’s sister city, Tula, journeyed into space six times in his career and recently participated in Russia’s 50th anniversary of its first manned space flight.
