TROY, NY– The Tri-City ValleyCats are set to begin renovations on four youth baseball fields located in Albany, Ballston Spa, Schenectady and Scotia. Renovations will begin at 5:30 a.m. on Friday, April 15. ValleyCats staff members, league volunteers and volunteers from the four major sponsors, Friendly’s, Price Chopper, CDTA and The Brickman Group, will be split up among the four fields throughout the day on Friday and into Saturday morning. Please see timeline below.

A brief press conference will be held at the Westland Hills location in Albany at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 15. ValleyCats Vice President/General Manager Rick Murphy, Assistant General Manager Matt Callahan and representatives from the four major sponsors will all be on hand.

Hancock, NY, 4/16— “Come Hell or High Water” is an annual fly fishing festival and film tour to be
hosted at West Branch Angler. The idea is to bring new people into the sport, celebrate the Catskills, the
beginning of spring and a new fly fishing season. We have been working closely with the major fly fishing
manufacturers and local business’s to bring something for everyone. The expo is free to the public and an

“Connections”
Art Show & Benefit Sat., May 7th, 2pm – 8pm
We will be showcasing 7 Sorelle artists, with up to 50 pieces of work each. Samples of the artwork can be seen at the gallery beginning March 28th. The reception on Sat. May 7th will take place at 6 Executive Park Dr., Entrance B, rather than the gallery due to the size of this show. This is the 2nd of 3 major shows and 5% of the proceeds will benefit Park Playhouse. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served and this is open to the public and free. Select restaurants and stores will offer specials in conjunction with the show. SILENT ART AUCTION AT ALBANY COMIC CON TO BENEFIT JAPAN DISASTER RELIEF

Albany, New York, April 7, 2011 — A silent art auction will be held during the Albany Comic Con Sunday April 17th, 2011 at the Holiday Inn on Wolf Road in Colonie, New York. The auction will benefit Japanese disaster relief, as comic book professionals and dealers will donate items to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. The proceeds will be donated through Catholic Relief Services (CRS) to Caritas Japan, from St. Ambrose Church to help the people of Japan affected by recent disasters there. 100% of all proceeds from the auction will reach the people of Japan. Nominations sought; winner to be crowned May 8 at Tulip Festival

ALBANY, NY – The City of Albany and St. Peter’s Women’s and Children’s Services are proud to recognize compassionate Capital Region moms in the 13th Annual Mother of the Year Contest.

The contest celebrates mothers who are committed to their families and their communities while serving as positive role models and touching the lives of those around them.

Nomination forms can be found at www.MotherOfTheYearAlbany.com and are available at St. Peter’s Hospital. Entries must be submitted by April 17th with an essay of 95 words or less.

The Schenectady Museum has been awarded a Save America’s Treasures grant of $25,735 to preserve a tinfoil recording created by Thomas Edison on June 22, 1878 in St. Louis, Missouri.

This recording is likely the second oldest surviving recorded voice of an American made using an Edison phonograph; however, its contents are unknown because the recording cannot be safely played. The Schenectady Museum will use the grant to fund the recovery of the sound using a non-contact optical scanning process that will allow the sound to be copied from the tinfoil.

“It is exciting to have a part of the Schenectady Museum Archives preserved and recognized for what it is: one of America’s great treasures. This is the most prestigious preservation grant in the United States,” said Chris Hunter, Schenectady Museum Curator of Collections & Exhibitions.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, New York (March 30, 2011) – Five charitable organizations will have the chance to be a part of Saratoga Casino and Raceway’s brand new philanthropy program, “Party for a Cause”.
The program will be offered Thursday nights, beginning July 28 and ending August 25. Selected 501c3 organizations will have the use of Vapor Night Club and its DJ to host a fundraising event, with no rental fees.
The organization will be permitted to pre-sell admission tickets for $5, keeping all proceeds. Admission will also be collected at the door the night of the event. Saratoga Casino and Raceway will then match tickets sales up to $1,000 for every guest that attends on the event night.

TROY, NY– It is opening day in Major League Baseball and to celebrate the beginning of a new season, Tri-City ValleyCats individual game tickets for their 10th anniversary 2011 season are now on sale.

The ValleyCats 2011 schedule consists of 38 home games including match-ups against the affiliates of the Boston Red Sox (June 23-25, Aug. 28-29), New York Yankees (July 16-18) and New York Mets (Aug. 23-25). There will be a total of fifteen fireworks shows throughout the season.

The ValleyCats begin their New York-Penn League title defense on Friday, June 17 against the Vermont Lake Monsters and will raise the championship banner during a special pre-game ceremony. There are only a limited amount of tickets still available for Opening Day as well as Independence Day on July 4.
