There’s no better way to experience the fabulous Price Chopper July 4th Fireworks than aboard the Duck. First, there’s a barbecue at the Shaker Road-Loudonville Fire Department before boarding the Duck to Splash into the Hudson River for the festivities.

VALLEYCATS TENTATIVE ROSTER RELEASED
Five returnees from 2010 championship team
TROY, N.Y. – The Opening Day roster for the Tri-City ValleyCats was released on Wednesday afternoon. 28 minor-league players in the Houston Astros organization will begin the summer in Troy as the ValleyCats look to defend their 2010 New York-Penn League title.
Five players from that championship team will return to Tri-City this season. Shortstop Jacke Healey, who hit five homers and drove in 21 runs for the ValleyCats, joins catcher Ryan McCurdy as the returning position players. Left-handed pitchers Travis Blankenship and Adam Champion, as well as righty Joan Belliard, will return to the Tri-City bullpen. [...]

On Sunday, June 5, 2011, ANA will host its annual Still Parents, Still Family Luncheon at Longfellow’s Restaurant in Saratoga Springs. The event will feature internationally acclaimed author and speaker Sherokee Ilse, who has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and has spoken about pregnancy loss and infant death across the U.S. and internationally.
The luncheon, held between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, acknowledges the parenthood of those who have lost children. Sherokee will discuss ways to create new traditions that honor all family members, and how to support bereaved families.
“Infant death affects the entire family,” noted ANA Board member Michelle Deyette, whose nephew, JJ, was stillborn. “JJ’s brothers have always included them in their games. They realize that he will always be their brother.”

Invention Convention 2011 Awards Ceremony Honored Student Inventors at Schenectady Museum >& Suits-Bueche Planetarium May 26
A reception and awards ceremony for Invention Convention 2011 was held May 26 at the Schenectady Museum & Suits-Bueche Planetarium during which 100 student inventors were recognized as regional semi-finalists, and 28 students were announced as state finalists from over 1,300 student submissions.
Invention Convention is an annual invention competition open to Capital District students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Students are invited to submit an original idea for an invention that solves a problem they have encountered in their lives. The top 100 entries are then invited to create a model of their invention. A panel of patent attorneys and engineers chose the 100 semi-finalists based on creativity, originality, complexity, innovation, practicality, and impact. </ [...]
