First bobblehead images revealed of Astros’ All-Star outfielder
TROY, N.Y.
Pence will participate in tonight’s All-Star Game, playing for the National League as the sole representative of the Houston Astros. 2011 marks the second time that the 28-year-old outfielder has been selected by his fellow players to make the All-Star team; he was named to the roster in 2009 but did not appear in the game.
One of the first ValleyCats to reach the major leagues, Pence is enjoying the finest season of his five-year career. Houston’s right fielder leads the Astros in most offensive categories, including batting average (.323), slugging percentage (.496), home runs (11) and runs batted in (60).
Pence, a second-round selection in the 2004 MLB Draft, made his professional debut in Troy that summer. He batted .296, slugged .518 and swatted eight home runs in 51 games, helping lead the ValleyCats to their first of three Stedler Division titles.
