NBA Pre-Season Game Cancelled

Albany, NY – Times Union Center officials received word today that the NBA Pre-Season game between the NY Knicks and Boston Celtics has been cancelled because a new collective bargaining agreement has not been reached with the National Basketball Players Association.

Tickets for the game scheduled on October 15th can be returned to the original point of purchase for refunds. Any ticket purchased through ticketmaster.com or over the phone at 1-800-745-3000 will be automatically refunded.

Over 100 Schenectady 8th Graders Visited Schenectady Museum & Suits-Bueche Planetarium for KAPL Science Day

The Schenectady Museum & Suits-Bueche Planetarium hosted KAPL Science Day September 28.

KAPL Science Day was attended by over 100 visitors, including students from the Schenectady City School District’s Oneida, Central Park, Mont Pleasant and King Schools.

Volunteers from Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (KAPL) and staff from the Schenectady Museum & Planetarium served as presenters for the day. Visitors explored celestial navigation, electricity, magnetism, motors, generators, and nuclear energy. There was also a special presentation by Capt. Brian Fort on the Energy in the Navy. Albany, NY – As part of their continuing mission with the Mayor Jerry Jennings Literacy Campaign, Albany Tulip Queen Karen Colehour and her court are pleased to partner with the Albany Public Library to present the Lights, Camera, Literacy program on September 15th and 29th at 7:00pm. The free, hour-long program takes place in the Tulip Queen Reading Room at the Albany Main Library and will continue twice a month.

The Lights, Camera, Literacy project begins with the Tulip Queen and Court reading fun and exciting books to children. Franchise sets new attendance milestones in 2011

TROY, N.Y. (September 6, 2011) – The Tri-City ValleyCats 2011 season has ended without a chance to defend their New York-Penn League title. However, the franchise has plenty to celebrate.

For the eighth consecutive season the ValleyCats set a new single-season
attendance record. 156,279 fans passed through the gates of Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in 2011, nearly 1,000 more fans than 2010. That averages out to 4,341 per game, an increase from the 4,314 average in 2010.

The ValleyCats reached the 100,000 attendance mark before the month of August for the first time since they arrived in Troy in 2002 and three dates from 2011 sit in the top ten all-time crowds at “The Joe.” Those dates include the single-game attendance

Schenectady Museum Receives $1,500 Grant from Transfinder for Field Trip Transportation Assistance
Transfinder has awarded a grant for $1,500 to the Schenectady Museum & Suits-Bueche Planetarium’s Powering the Future: The STEM Fund, to provide field trip transportation assistance during the 2011-2012 school year for underserved youth in Schenectady County whose lack of resources would otherwise prevent a visit to the Museum.
