Peter Yarrow is guest speaker for Mental Health Association in New York State for a Special Evening on Tuesday, October 25th, 2011.
Albany, NY October 3, 2011 – Peter Yarrow of the legendary folk group Peter, Paul & Mary will be the guest speaker at the Mental Health Association in New York State’s (MHANYS) Awards Dinner for a special evening on Tuesday, October 25th celebrating the work of its affiliates and colleagues.
Peter is an advocate for the public’s understanding of and perception of those challenged by mental illness, including Clinical Depression, from which Peter, himself, suffered for over a decade. His advocacy in this arena is, of course, very personal and important to him.
Peter Yarrow’s commitment and life’s work have been framed by his awareness that music of conscience can be extremely effective when used as a source for inspiring and uniting efforts to heal, and create, a better world. As a performer and social activist, Peter has used music in just that way, bringing people together to create a more just, peaceful, and compassionate society. Through such efforts, beginning in the early 1960s, the music of Peter, Paul and Mary became, for literally millions of people, the genesis of their activism and commitment to advancing positive social change.
The other arenas of Peter’s advocacy are many and include efforts to advance peace, human and civil rights, and education.
MHANYS and its affiliate network promotes mental health and recovery, encourage empowerment in mental health service recipients, eliminate discrimination, raise public awareness with education, and advocate for equality and opportunity for all. This yearly event highlights the outstanding work being done by the members of the Mental Health Association across New York State.
Do not miss this unique opportunity to hear great music, celebrate awardees and support a good cause. The MHANYS Awards Dinner is on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 5:00 pm at the Albany Marriott on Wolf Road. Tickets cost $75.
