Cats will begin 24-hour marathon to rehab four youth baseball fields
TROY, NY– On Friday, April 13 at 11 AM, the ValleyCats will kick-off their Community Grounds Crew Program, presented by BlueShield of Northeastern New York, with a press conference at Waterford Little League. Waterford is one of the four fields being revamped as part of the second-ever ’4 in 24′ Youth Field Renovation Project. Last year, floods damaged the ball fields in Waterford, which delayed the league’s opening day by a week.
Each of the four chosen youth fields, Cambridge Valley Athletic Association, South Colonie Youth Baseball, Coxsackie Little League and Waterford Little League, will all have new sod placed on their infield, while also seeing their pitcher’s mound and home plate areas re-built, all in less than 24-hours. Other work will include straightening the baselines, making sure the field dimensions are accurate and more. Renovation on each field will begin at 6 AM, with work scheduled around the clock. The ’4 in 24′ renovations are also being aided by the support of Pioneer Bank.
WHAT:
To officially kick-off the Community Grounds Crew’s ’4 in 24′ Field Renovation Project, a press conference will take place at Waterford Little League. Following the press conference, brand new sod will be laid on the infield. Last year, the fields in Waterford were underwater due to the floods from snow melt and spring rains.
