Contestants will have the chance to perform at “The Joe” during the 2012 season
All interested performers should report to the lower level of Crossgates Mall near the Apple Store to register. Registration will begin at 9 AM with auditions set to begin at 10 AM. There will be no pre-registering, and auditions will be conducted on a first come-first go basis.
“We know there are a ton of talented performers in the Capital Region, and we want to give them a chance to have the honor of performing the National Anthem in front of our fans at ‘The Joe,’” says Michelle Skinner, ValleyCats Fan Development Manager.
“Crossgates is host to many events throughout the year, but this is definitely a one-of-a-kind event. We are excited to partner with the ValleyCats and look forward to seeing the talent that these tryouts bring to the mall, and to the ball field this season,” says Crossgates Marketing Director Jennifer O’Leary.
Contestants may choose to perform the National Anthem or God Bless America. All auditions will be performed a capella. Instruments will be permitted, but only those that do not require electricity. Singers can apply individually or as a group.
The judging panel will select five finalists who will record their version of the National Anthem, and then be placed on the ValleyCats website for fans to vote on a winner. Voting will last for one week.
The winner will get to sing the National Anthem on a selected premium fireworks night at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, which draws an average of 5,000 fans. Other contestants may be selected to perform at the ballpark as well.
The ValleyCats 2012 home opener is on Wednesday, June 20. Fans in attendance will receive a 2012 schedule magnet and will enjoy the first postgame fireworks extravaganza of the summer.
