ALBANY, NY – On Saturday, September 29th, the Addictions Care Center of Albany (ACCA) will host the 4th Annual Start Smart Field Day to celebrate 18 years of providing substance abuse prevention education to area schools. The event, located at ACCA’s campus at 90 McCarty Avenue in Albany, will run from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm and is FREE to the community!
Start Smart is the umbrella term for ACCA’s substance abuse prevention education continuum which is provided annually to Capital Region youth and families. Start Smart Field Day, hosted by ACCA and sponsored by BlueShield of Northeastern New York, celebrates the onset of ACCA’s prevention programming in area schools. Field Day will offer plenty of food and activities for families to enjoy, including music, a magic show, a moon bounce, pony rides, a petting zoo, carnival games and prizes, face painting, balloon animals, caricatures, a book giveaway, and a variety of arts and crafts. At 11:30 am, County Executive Daniel McCoy and Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple will present special awards to ACCA’s 2011-2012 Annual Prevention Poster Contest winners.
“Start Smart Field Day is ACCA’s way of thanking our partners, including the students and administrators of the public and private schools, after-school and summer programs who have continually utilized our prevention education programming throughout our 18-year history,” states Keith W. Stack, Executive Director of the Addictions Care Center. “Our prevention educators have worked tirelessly to further their reach into the community and provide the kind of education our children need to make healthy choices and remain resilient. We are fortunate to have such great support within Albany County and are pleased we are able to give back to the community by offering this free event!”
