The Discovery Center at Albany Pine Bush Preserve is the gateway to the Pine Bush! Featuring various interactive exhibits, activities, classrooms, and more, this interpretive center introduces visitors to everything that makes the preserve distinct.

Gateway To The Pine Bush

Located in Albany, NY, the Albany Pine Bush Preserve features both a 3,300-acre nature preserve that is open to the public for non-motorized recreational activities and a one-of-a-kind interpretive center - The Discovery Center.

Managed by the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission, The Discover Center transforms this globally unique destination into an exciting indoor adventure for visitors of all ages. Open year round and free of charge, the public is invited to:

  • Explore the Pine Bush's geologic and cultural significance
  • Examine the plants and animals that live in the preserve
  • Study the Pine Bush's management principles
  • And consider the human impacts on this rare landscape

Learn About The Preserve

In addition to the interactive exhibits, the center includes classrooms where learning comes alive for schools and groups. Their expert educators, scientists, stewards, and volunteers host a wide range of natural, historical, and cultural programs throughout the year.

The Discovery Center also offers teacher resources and a gift shop full of educational materials and more.

Visit The Albany Pine Bush Preserve

After you've learned all about this unique preserve, it's time to explore it for yourself. The nature preserve is open year round and offers over 20 miles of recreational trails. More than 1,500 plant and animal species call the landscape home, including the federally endangered Karner blue butterfly.
