Participants will have the opportunity to ride the COPD Shuttle: Journey to the Center of the Lung, get a free lung health check, and learn more about COPD and its impact on healthcare costs in New York State. The COPD Shuttle: Journey to the Center of the Lung is a 20-seat motion simulator ride that takes its audience on a journey through the lungs to witness the damages of smoking. Spirometry testing will be available to elected officials, staff, agency employees and any member of the public at the Empire State Plaza during the Farmer's Market. The tests will demonstrate the importance and ease of checking lung function. In addition, volunteers will distribute the DRIVE4COPD's five-question COPD screener. During the event, attendees from throughout New York will have the opportunity to meet with their elected officials and discuss COPD data collection needs and urge them to pass a COPD resolution this year.
