The fundraising goal of the chapter is to realize more than $250,000 for research to find better treatments and a cure for diabetes and its complications. "It's great to be partnering with JDRF and working together on such an important goal - promoting awareness of type 1 diabetes (T1D) and raising funds to advance research." said Andy James, President of Rensselaer Honda and this year's presenting sponsor. "By working together, we can make a difference for the millions of Americans who are affected by this disease." In addition to widespread corporate support, entire families from kids to grandparents take part in the fundraising efforts of Walk to Cure Diabetes. The Albany Walk is a family-friendly event with live entertainment, food, kids' activities, clowns, face painting and more! On-site registration begins at 22 Corporate Woods at 9:30 a.m. The entire walk will be approximately 3 miles long, and will start and finish at 22 Corporate Woods. T1D is a disease that affects as many as 3 million Americans and over 10,000 people in the NENY Chapter. It is through the help and generosity of the Capital Region that JDRF is able to fund the research to find better treatments and ultimately a cure for T1D. JDRF Walks are held in more than 200 cities worldwide. Nearly 500,000 people nationally walked last year and raised $116 million for research to cure, treat and prevent T1D. JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes Elite Principal Partners are Advance Auto Parts and Ford Motor Company. The JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Principal Partners include Hy-Vee, Marshalls, Roche Accu-Chek and Walgreens. JDRF's Albany Walk to Cure Diabetes Corporate Partners are Rensselaer Honda, Martin Harding & Mazzotti LLP, Cargill, Hoffman Car Wash & Hoffman Jiffy Lube, Lavelle & Finn LLP, AYCO, Aflac NY, Medtronic, and LifeScan. About JDRF JDRF is the leader in research leading to a cure for type 1 diabetes in the world. It sets the global agenda for diabetes research, and is the largest charitable funder and advocate of diabetes science worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults, and can be fatal. Until a cure is found, people with type 1 diabetes have to test their blood sugar and give themselves insulin injections multiple times or use a pump - each day, every day of their lives. And even with that intensive care, insulin is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its potential and devastating complications, which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke and amputation. Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1.6 billion to diabetes research, including $161 million last year. More than 80 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. For more information, call (518) 477-2873.
