We are thrilled to announce that Paul Kirk and friend will be performing at our open house this Thursday. Paul plays the Irish fiddle and his friend plays the Irish whistle and guitar.
Paul began composing music at age 15. His early pieces were inspired by the Baroque and early Classic Period styles. He attended Cleveland State University on a full tuition scholarship, where he studied music theory, music education, music history, and was classically trained on the viola. For many years Paul performed in early music consorts and chamber ensembles. About a decade ago he became interested in folk music, and more recently became interested in folk dance.
Paul has written well over 400 jigs, reels, hornpipes, strathspeys, airs, waltzes, and other folk dance pieces. His music is inspired by Scottish, Irish, Cape Breton, French Canadian, and 17th century English dance music. He writes a wide variety of tunes for various persons and occasions and is currently working on publishing a book of some of his tunes.
Paul is one of the very few, perhaps the only person, who offers a tune commissioning service in the USA.
With all the music he has written, Paul needed an outlet to perform the tunes, so he formed the band Ceud Mile Failte. There are more samples of Paul's music on their website:
