The University at Albany Chamber Singers, under the direction of David Griggs-Janower, presents the 2012 s Jean Marie Cole Concerts in the Garden.
Mr. Griggs-Janower conducts this group of 27 singers of whom eight are voice majors, one is a piano major, two are general music majors, and the rest are from other disciplines. They share a love of singing, and of communicating with their audiences.
We are fortunate to have this group perform at the Library; they've already done seven performances this season throughout New York, and are scheduled for several more performances in upstate and Montreal.
This semester the UA Chamber Singers have explored repertory from the early and late Baroque period through compositions and arrangement written in this century, with a clear bias toward tonal, tuneful music on beautiful poetry. Much of the repertory for this GPL performances come from living American composers, and the texts often speak about love. In addition the Chamber Singers will perform wroks from Scotland, Canada and South Africa, and several African-American spirutuals. As a special treat, a few of the senior voice majors will present a song each from their senior recitals.
David Griggs-Janower, a Guilderland resident for over 20 years, has been teaching at the Univesity at Albany since 1981, where he conducts the Chamber Singers and the large, town-gown University Chorale, and teaches a variety of music courses. G-J is the Founding Conductor and Artistic Director of Albany Pro Musica and has been a guest conductor of the Albany Symphony, Guilderland HS, Niskayuna HS, Williams College, Skidmore College, the Mendelssohn Club of Albany, and at several NY All-County festivals.
