On May 11, a panel of writing and gaming experts from academia and industry from across the nation will convene at Excelsior College in Albany, N.Y. to discuss the use of "serious games" - or digitally immersing students in real-world issues and situations - in education programs.
Local naturalist David Behm will show color photographs illustrating the chronological order of more than 280 species of blooming plants that annually appear between mid-March and the end of June at local nature preserves. Following his presentation, he will lead a brief wildflower walk on the Liberty Trail that links the library to Arongen and Shatekon Schools.
The program "Turning Life Into a Business" features Julie DeFruscio, entrepreneur and co-owner of Pump Wear, Inc. She will share her personal story of creating a successful business out of a family health crisis, building the business through social media and sustaining the business by giving back to the community.
