Recently in Halloween Category

Every year, I totally stress over what we should go as. I honestly can't remember a year that I didn't dress up for Halloween. My college years were the best, it seemed like Missouri State Universtiy's Homecoming always coincided with Halloween and it was a week full of different costume parties.

These days, I try to limit the dressing up to one night only...but there's a lot of pressure to decide on what to be. After all, I have a pretty good record of creativity to live up too! Plus, I'm not a huge fan of store bought costumes.

This year Brett & I recruited our friends Joe & Renee Belardo and headed back to win the elusive $1,000 group costume prize at Vapor Night Club in Saratoga Springs. After a lot of debate, we decided to go as....Occupy Vapor protesters!

I cranked out the "Craft Time at the Looney Bin" kit full of my sorority days glue guns, paints and glitter and whipped up these awesome signs!

Just to clarify...we were not really protesting, as some of the people in the club thought. We were also not in the least serious in the least about our 'political' statement. I would have thought the glitter on the signs would tip folks off...

Unfortunately, Brett got the idea that he needed to have a drum...which he pounded on the entire night!

It probably would have been really annoying if we could have heard him above the hysterical laughing at his unintentional Corey Haim resemblance.

We finally made it to the costume contest and again, competitors brought their A games! There were some really great outfits that we understood...

...and some that we were not quiet sure what they were supposed to be.

We can't laugh too much though...that chick walked away with plenty of lettuce in her pocket after she nabbed the "Best Female" costume prize!

We were super bummed last year when we went as Chilean Miners and didn't get picked to be in the semi-finals for the couple's costume contest. This year Vapor changed up the divisions, offering a cool $1,000 to best male, best female and best group. The rules on their website stated that a group had to be three or more members.

Our little protest posse didn't get invited to join the Top 10 (we figured it was the man keeping us down). But we sure were surprised when those who were invited went on stage...several in pairs.

Huh??

Event organizers narrowed down the Top 10 to a Top 3 and here were our choices to cheer for:

Take a wild guess at which won the group contest and the $1,000? The Lego couple! Sure, their costumes were great and really elaborate, but there were only two of them. We didn't expect to win the top prize, but if Saratoga's Vapor Club isn't going to play by their own rules then maybe it's not the place to focus our efforts for next Halloween. Any suggestions on where else to go??

We may just have to protest it for real next year!

Only problem, we're having a bit of trouble settling on a group costume that will blow the judge's skirts up. Y'all know the competition is fierce up there!
