Peebles Island State Park
Nestled amid a rolling, wooded landscape, Peebles Island State Park in Cohoes, NY is a great place to go hiking and enjoy the natural scenery surrounding you. Peebles Island is situated just 12 miles north of Albany, and at the park, you can discover year-round views of the Hudson and Mohawk River rapids and waterfalls along the miles of nature trails.
Enjoy a Unique Island Setting & Historic Museum
Peebles Island is a unique and fun destination to visit. Not only is the state park completely located on a 190-acre island with amazing river views, but the island is actually located at the confluence (or merging point) of the Hudson Mohawk and Hudson Rivers.
Peebles Island State Park is also the headquarters of the Bureau of Historic Sites and Bureau of Historic Preservation Field Services, which cares for artifacts, creates exhibits, and provides information about the 35 historic sites maintained by State Parks.
Year-Round Family Fun
The park has 3.6 miles of trails and is open all year from dawn to dusk, allowing visitors to enjoy hiking, fishing, and picnics during the summer, and panoramic views while cross-county skiing or snowshoeing in the winter. Around the park, you'll find observation decks that overlook the river, from which you can spot animals, birds, boats, and more throughout the year.
There are grills available at five picnic sites on a first-come, first-serve basis. The pavilion at the park can accommodate up to 100 people and must be reserved ahead of time. Make it a family trip and bring the pets along—the park allows up to two leashed or crated pets in the day use areas.
