Award-Winning Orchestra in Albany

user-pic
Who's headlining the news with their orchestral accolades in Albany? It isn't some visiting group - it's our very own Albany Symphony Orchestra.
The ASO recently received a prestigious award from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.

ASCAP annually awards prizes to orchestras across the nation, and this year ASO won first prize for "adventurous programming".

The "adventure" lies in featuring modern, contemporary, and avant-garde composers in the orchestra's 2010-11 season, such as John Corigliano, George Tsontakis, and Derek Bermel.

The award was given on June 9, at the League of American Orchestras' 66th national conference, held in Minneapolis. Included was a $1500 prize.

Besides this singular accomplishment, the ASO has another achievement to brag about: it has won more awards for adventurous programming than any other American orchestra.
