Alive @ Five kicks off this Thursday at 5:00pm at the Corning Preserve at the Albany Riverfront Park. The outdoor concert series features dancing, food, refreshments, vendors, and live music every Thursday night through August 9, and it's FREE.Opening bands usually hit the stage right at 5:00pm, with the headliners playing at 6:30pm.
The only problem with an outdoor concert series (literally, the only problem) is the weather. If it's going to be a rainy Thursday, the vendors, artists and concert goers will get soaked. This is why Alive @ Five has a backup plan. However, the plan this year is a little different than it been in the past.

The press release that I got this morning states:
"Due to ongoing Department of Transportation work at the Corning Preserve Boatlaunch, Mayor Jerry Jennings and the City of Albany announced today that the rainsite for this year's Alive at Five series has been moved to a new location. In the event of inclement weather, concerts will be held in the Quakenbush Square parking lot, on Broadway behind the Albany Visitors Center. Moving to the rain location is determined each week on the morning of the event to ensure proper set-up time."
We'll post an update on our Facebook page if the concert is to be held at the rain site. So, check there if you're skeptical about the clouds opening up.
Avid concert goer and Albany local, Rick Marchant, offers his opinion:
"I think that this will be incredibly confusing for the Alive @ Five goers, as we've all been so used to the location under 787 at the boat launch for so many years. I'm sure the new Quackenbush Square location will be much cleaner and hopefully fun for all. Parking should certainly be easier (unless of course we have another 20,000+ crowd at one of those shows!)"The alternate location should offer easier parking, but will be quite different than the days of old, standing under that bridge.
I guess we can all just hope for bright, sunny Thursdays until mid-August and we'll see where we end up watching some of the best local, regional, and national performers play their sets all summer.
