The Aqua Ducks have flown south for the winter a little early this year and they aren't coming back. New York State's only amphibious tour company, the Albany Aqua Ducks and Trolleys, have sold their two bus/boat vehicles.
The Duck vehicles will make their last tour on July 15, in the Capital City. This is the ninth season for the Ducks and the seventh for the Trolleys.
"Early this year, we announced that the Ducks and Trolleys were for sale. And, both Duck vehicles have been sold," said Robert Wolfgang, president of the company.
The three Albany Trolleys, a division of the Aqua Ducks, are also still up for sale and will be running as discussions with potential buyers continue.
The Aqua Ducks opened in 2004 and added three trolleys in 2006. The vehicles give tourists a 90-minute tour of Albany that included a land excursion through historic districts, with a "Splashdown" that gives a mariner's view of the city skyline from the Hudson River.
"We'll continue to offer daily Duck tours through July 15," said Wolfgang. "The Duck team wishes to thank the more than 175,000 guests we have served. Their support has been phenomenal. They came not only from the Capital Region, but from every continent, with the exception of Antarctica."
At the request of the buyer, Wolfgang was not at liberty to say where both vehicles are going.
