Uncle Sam Arrives For Some Early Holiday Cheer

user-pic
In the Capital Region, it's common knowledge that Uncle Sam is one of our own.  The famous patriotic figure is reportedly based on Troy meat-packer Sam Wilson, who supplied the troops with meat during the War of 1812. Every year, Uncle Sam returns to his roots, as the mascot of the Victorian Stroll. This year, he coming to the area a little earlier to spread some early holiday magic in honor of the 30th Anniversary of the Victorian Stroll!

The Victorian Stroll is one of the area's premier holiday events.  Many  downtown streets close to traffic, as entertainers rub elbows with holiday shoppers, and everyone gets into the festive spirit! Many ladies and gentlemen dress in Victorian garb, and many businesses and homes compete in window decorating contests.

Uncle Sam has long represented the Troy Victorian Stroll. Check out any poster for the holiday event and you'll see an artist's rendition of Uncle Sam in his patriotic, Victorian garb.

In order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Stroll, Uncle Sam has been transformed into a magical holiday nutcracker. He came to town July 4th to celebrate Independence Day, and is here to stay for the rest of 2012!

He'll be having adventures and spreading Victorian Stroll cheer all over the Capital Region from now until December.  Follow Uncle Sam's adventures on the Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce facebook page, and see the places he visits and the people he meets!

Are you excited for some early holiday cheer? What places would you like to see Uncle Sam at?
