For over a year now, you've been hearing that Bombers Burritos were coming to Troy... but plans were delayed and some wondered if the rumors were really true. I am here to assure you, the rumors are true -- Troy is getting a Bombers Burrito Bar very soon!
The Bombers in Troy, NY will be the first ever Bombers franchise location. Owner Matt Baumgartner opened the original location
in Albany back in 1997. That location grew so popular they decided to move forward with a second location, a larger venue in Schenectady, in 2009. The Troy location will be the third Bombers Burrito Bar in the area, owned by local siblings Tami Dzembo and Glenn Young.
Bombers serves casual Mexican fare
and are well known for their giant burritos. They are not like a traditional Mexican restaurant, though; they have an edgy flare all their own. My absolute favorite menu item is their BBQ pork burrito with a little extra BBQ on the side. This is the kind of food you eat once and then dream about until you can get back there again. To be honest, I am craving Bombers right now... and it's only 8am!
Do I think Bombers will do well in Troy? Absolutely. They will be located at the intersection of Troy's King Street and Federal Street -- just steps from other popular Troy restaurants and bars, like Ryan's Wake and Brown's Brewing Co. but with a completely different flare. Also, with the success that Dinosaur BBQ has seen tucked away in that corner beside the Green Island bridge (the place is packed every single night when former restaurants in that location were struggling), I think it's clear to see that it's not so much location, location, location but rather food, food, food. And we all know Bombers can deliver on great food, and the location isn't bad either. In my mind, Troy Bombers is a winning combination.
So when will the Troy Bombers open? It's always a guessing game, but things are in the works now. Groundbreaking on the new location began in mid-July, so they are anticipating a late 2012 or early 2013 opening, providing all goes well from here on out with this location.
Join with me in saying good luck and cheers to a new Bombers Burrito Bar in Troy, NY - coming soon!
