If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, more than 25 vendors will be in attendance at the Troy Flea Market in Riverfront Park on Sunday – there will also be awesome food and live music.
While marketgoers can expect to see many of the same fun items as past flea markets – vintage clothing, comic books, housewares, etc. – there will be some new additions this year.
Larger furniture items, including handmade bunk beds, will also be available for sale. Some furniture will be refurbished, and some new.
Flea market enthusiasts will be able browse treasures at the market every second and fourth Sunday from July 10th through October 23rd.
The quirky and popular Troy Flea Market is now being managed by Kristin Jackson, with Jessica McEnaney assisting – McEnaney is the previous leader of the market, and is now helping out remotely from her new home in Florida.
“I liked what Jessica did with the market last year,” Jackson said in a statement. “I feel like it had a lot of personality – really kitschy stuff that’s different from what you typically see at street fairs. I thought it would be a shame if we didn’t keep it going on Sundays.”
Jackson works at The Shop tavern and restaurant in downtown Troy and has a background in event planning and music festivals. As a member of the business community in Troy, who also brings event and festival management to the table, Jackson is clearly an ideal person to be running the flea market.
New vendors will be added as the summer progresses. Jackson plans to be selective with the vendors in order to ensure quality products for sale, a variation in what’s available, and decent pricing.
“We will keep the focus on fun, kitschy, beautiful, eclectic, and weird things,” Jackson said in a statement.
The Muddaddy Flats – a “quesadillary” in Troy – will be selling their fantastic quesadillas during the first flea market this Sunday; other food vendors will make an appearance on future Sundays. Dan Sherwin will be performing live music during this first market.
At the moment, the flea market does not have a rain location, but Jackson is looking into it. In the event of poor weather, visitors are asked to check the Troy Flea Market Facebook page for any announcements regarding a cancellation.
