Albany Center Gallery Launches New 1624 Keepsake Challenge

What makes Albany special to you? The Albany Center Gallery would like to know! Create a trading card depicting a special vision of Albany and it could be part of a new and exciting project.

Residents and visitors are invited to create 1,624 hand-painted trading cards at events and locations throughout Albany as part of the Albany Center Gallery's new 1624 Keepsake Challenge.

The trading cards will be put on display at Albany City Hall prior to the Tulip Festival - but that's not all! The pieces will be presented as a gift to Albany's sister city in the Netherlands, Nijmegen. The gift will be an expression of our commitment to open communication between the two cities and cultures.

The name of the project is in reference to Albany's first trade settlement as Fort Orange in 1624.

To create a trading card, first think of a solid representation of what Albany means to you - your favorite local hot spot, a prominent landmark or building, a particular seasonal food you enjoy here every year - there are infinite possibilities.

This is a really cool and creative way to celebrate hometown pride and contribute to a great cause at the same time.

As of this writing trading cards and art supplies can be found at the Albany Center Gallery, Albany Heritage Area Visitors Center, and Albany City Hall. Check the Albany Center Gallery's website as more locations may be added.

Trading cards must be submitted by April 28th.

If you are a business owner and would like to host a trading cards creation site, contact Maeve McEneny at 518.434.1217.
