A fun day trip away from Albany!
Some of the best ski slopes near Albany are in surrounding states close to the Capital Region. Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont all offer ski resorts within reach. Below is a sampling of downhill ski centers outside of New York.
Just Outside NY
Jiminy Peak
Also nearby, and just over the border into Massachusetts lies Jiminy Peak, offering several advanced and expert trails, as well as private and group ski lessons for beginners. Their children's programming is very popular, offering both ski lessons and a supervised playroom perfect for those children who prefer indoor play.
Okemo Mountain Resort
Travel to southern Vermont and enjoy excellent skiing on Okemo. This ski mountain resort offers 19 lifts, 632 of winter wonderland and 117 trails, from beginner to expert. Okemo offers one of the highest vertical drops in the state (2,200 feet), but also caters to hte snowboarding set with a relatively flat ski area. The ski center offers 4 snowboard parks, 3 pipes, and a snow skate park as well.
Stratton Mountain
Go skiing, snowboarding or enjoy other winter fun at Stratton Mountain. Located in Bondville, VT, about 2 hours northeast of Albany, Stratton is known for its highest peak in Southern Vermont and world-class terrain park. Not a skiier? Winter activites abound including ice skating, cross country skiing, free mountain tours, horse-drawn carriage rides, snowmobile tours for adults and kids, snowshoeing and events.
Nearby Vermont beckons with additional choices as well. Bromley is an excellent choice for families, and was recently named #2 in the Nation for Family Ski Programs by the readers of SKI magazine. Mt. Snow/Haystack offers so much to do, it almost defies the name ski center. Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, tubing and sleigh rides can all be enjoyed -- a great place to go if a family or group member does not like downhill as they have so many other activities to choose from, including a massage at the spa!
