Race for Equity 5K
University at Albany’s Race for Equity 5K celebrates social justice accomplishments in the United States, raises awareness about current injustices and educates participants as our nation forges ahead in the Race for Equity. Thirty "social justice stations" along the race course will have giveaways (Equity 5K Bags provided) and will be dedicated to memorializing a social justice accomplishment, recognizing civil rights leaders or raising awareness about a current inequity.
The 5K run/walk/roll starts at Casey Stadium and loops around the perimeter of the uptown campus, with ARE Event Productions managing the course and timing logistics. Competitive runners, walkers and children (including those in strollers) from the UAlbany community and general public are all welcome to join the event, which will also include music and tabling by student organizations and local non-profit organizations.
Proceeds from the event will be dedicated to social justice scholarships for new and continuing University at Albany students who demonstrate interest in, and advocacy for, advancing social justice initiatives.
Registered participants will also be provided with a bracelet that will grant entry to an afterparty at Bob Ford Field where the UAlbany vs. Syracuse football game will be played live on the Jumbotrons. Food and beverages will be available for purchase in the stadium. The Race for Equity 5K is hosted by the University at Albany’s Office of Equity and Compliance, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Office of Multicultural Student Engagement and the Men’s Basketball Team.
