In the Fall 2007, one of the first classes I taught involved a real-time case study of the airlines to determine ways that they could make more money. A recurring theme that came up during class discussions and student research was that airlines should charge money for luggage or at least outsource the services.<\/p>\n
Following a few weeks of discussions, the students and I decided to send letters to many of the major airlines; several responded with emails or letters of thanks for our input.<\/p>\n
No less than a few months later, we began to see that airlines began to charge for luggage handling.<\/p>\n
