In today’s fast-paced society, it’s hard not to be critical of the various social media platforms utilized by a variety of different people. From twerking to cinnamon challenges, the internet is full of content that simply is not workplace appropriate. Facebook, Youtube, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Tumblr can all be very dangerous places. Posting inappropriate content can definitely hinder a job search. It can truly deter employers from interviewing otherwise excellent candidates.<\/p>\n

As damaging as social media can become for the job searcher, it can also be a very practical tool. LinkedIn users all over the world have access to amazing content that can help them increase their likelihood of becoming employed. Users can update a professional profile picture, connect with other users, and even create an online resume. In contrast to Facebook, LinkedIn allows you to create an in-depth online resume that showcases your past experience and capabilities.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, connections can play a key role in advancement. LinkedIn allows current or past co-workers to endorse your skills. What could be more convenient than automatic virtual references? Employers already know the person simply by viewing a profile! This increases time savings for HR professionals, and oftentimes lands a job for the LinkedIn professional that has dedicated a great amount of time to his or her profile.
