There are various events, circumstances and situations that bring on stress. Stress can be both negative and positive. Positive stress also known as Eustress is characterized as “focused energy” which is utilized to motivate individuals. Although short-term, Eustress helps to improve performance. Negative stress also known as Distress can be characterized as anxious or unpleasant. Distress can be long-term or short-term thus decreases performance.<\/p>\n

It is important to utilize tips and tricks in order to manage your stress. These tips include but are not limited to:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Positive Self-Talk<\/p>\n

Turn “I can’t do this” into “I’ll do my best.” Often people fail to realize they are their worst enemy. Positive self-talk will encourage you to keep going even through the most difficult situations. Negative self-talk only increases stress, whereas positive self-talk helps you calm down and control stress.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Emergency Stoppers<\/p>\n

Emergency stoppers are quick ways to deal with on the spot stress. Emergency stoppers include counting to 10, taking deep breaths or removing yourself from the situation.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Pleasures & Hobbies<\/p>\n

Doing things you love is a natural way to manage stress. Hobbies such as painting, drawing, listening to music, reading or even cleaning is a healthy way to manage your stress. Trying to do something you love for at least 15 minutes a day is one of the best ways to limit stress.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Relaxation Techniques<\/p>\n

Meditation and prayer are often relaxing ways to combat stress. If the time constraints and space available do not allow for such activities, there are some quick ways you can briefly mediate in order to decreases your stress levels. These tips and tricks include but are not limited to:<\/p>\n

o Inhaling and Exhaling from 5 to 10 minutes<\/p>\n

o Sitting comfortably with your feet planted firmly on the floor and your hands in your lap with your eyes closed.<\/p>\n

o Visualizing yourself in a peaceful environment.<\/p>\n
