{"id":3215,"date":"2009-04-13T12:33:58","date_gmt":"2009-04-13T16:33:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.albany.com\/hr\/2009\/04\/document-discipline-dismiss.html"},"modified":"2017-12-01T08:51:45","modified_gmt":"2017-12-01T13:51:45","slug":"document-discipline-dismiss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.albany.com\/hr\/2009\/04\/document-discipline-dismiss\/","title":{"rendered":"Document, Discipline, Dismiss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am often asked questions along the lines of<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;How do I make this person work harder?&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;How do I keep this person from coming in late all the time?&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;XXXXX hasn&#8217;t done anything productive for the last XXXX months, what can I do?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These questions (with some flexibility based on union contracts, labor agreements, company policies) can all be solved with an effective &#8220;3-D Policy&#8221; &#8211; Document, Discipline, Dismiss.<br \/>\n(McGrath mentions the 3D Policy in their article &#8220;Document, Discipline, Dismiss: The McGrath 3-D Approach to Documentation of Employee Performance and Misconduct<br \/>\nIssues.&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>Not everything documented has to be of a negative nature. But documenting as much as possible about someone&#8217;s performance helps you cover yourself in the event of a complaint.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been blessed to only have had to fire a few people in my lifetime, and all of them were a result of following an effective Document Discipline Dismiss policy?<\/p>\n<p>How have you effectively used 3D or a variation of it?
