Capital Region Rail Funding
ALBANY NY - The Capital Region will get the bulk of money received for the nation's high-speed rail network, though overall New York State was given limited spending in the first round of funding. The Empire State Passengers Association is thankful for the money New York State is receiving, but disappointed it is not more.
New York received a total of $151 million of the $8 billion in grants announced by Barack Obama. Of the $151 million, $90 million will go towards a second track between Albany and Schenectady and $3 million towards a third track in Saratoga County. In Schenectady, many track improvements are necessary, therefore some of the $90 million will be used towards repairs.
In comparison, Wisconsin is getting $810 million for it's 80 mile passageway and California is getting $2.34 billion for its high speed rail project.
