Albany, NY – Starting July 1, 2010 New York state will be raising
the excise tax on cigarettes by another $1.60. This will put the tax cost up to
$4.35 per carton. The bill was passed in Albany on Monday June 21, 2010.
The excise tax does not include sales taxes and any other
local taxes that might be added on. In New York City buying a pack of
cigarettes will now be more than $10! Other tobacco products will have a raise
in tax ranging from 46 to 75 percent!
