It’s official. President Obama will return to the Capital Region! The White House has confirmed that the President will visit Schenectady on Tuesday January 11th.
While few details have been announced, it is rumored that the President will be visiting the General Electric facility.
President Obama’s last trip to the Capital Region was in September of 2009 when he visited Hudson Valley Community College. During his speech the President specifically mentioned Schenectady, NY.
This is an exciting time for the Electric City. Once a booming industrial city, Schenectady is now creating green jobs. In May 2010, GE announced the opening of a new battery plant, which will be a source of a renewable energy. This is likely the reason for the President’s visit.
What do you think? Are you proud? Excited?
UPDATED JANUARY 9, 2011: The President’s visit has been postponed.
