Today is the last day of spring. It’s also the last day before Houlihan’s restaurant closes in Crossgates Mall. The owners and management will remain the same, but when the restaurant re-opens this fall, the people may be the only things you recognize…
I read Steve Barnes post this morning and learned that Houlihan’s will reopen as Jacob & Anthony’s Prep Kitchen this fall. The entire restaurant will be re-branded into an “Ivy League Prep School” image.
So… what does that mean, exactly? I guess it would be more sophisticated, more refined… yet still casual? A lot of locals are scratching their heads on this decision (particularly the timing, being closed all summer), but I think only time will tell whether this was a smart move or not.
The Marello Management group will remain the owners and operators when Houlihan’s transitions to Jacob & Anthony’s Prep Kitchen. They also own Bellini’s Italian Restaurant in Clifton Park and Slingerlands as well as Jacob & Anthony’s American Grille in Saratoga Springs.
The new Jacob & Anthony’s Prep Kitchen at Crossgates will have a newly renovated bar and patio, featuring a menu that includes: salads, burgers, sandwiches, tacos and Jacob & Anthony’s classic entrees.
According to what Barnes heard back from the company, their goal will be:
…bringing back the IVY League Prep School image and partnering that
with a polished casual dining environment geared towards mall shoppers
and community residents of all ages. The menu will be filled with
wonderful fresh salads, burgers, sandwiches and tacos, and of course
J&A’s Classic Entrees. Timeless recipes with a modern presentation,
the Prep Kitchen will be sure to have something for the whole family.
With a newly renovated Bar & Patio, this location will be great for a
small bite on the go, happy hour with co-workers or dinner and drinks
Did you like Houlihan’s? Are you puzzled or excited about this new transition?
