As summer gets underway, so do the celebrations for Independence Day Weekend.
While you’re preparing for the Albany area festivities, learn a little more about the origins of America’s Independence:
Did you know…
- That the Declaration of Independence was actually written on July 2, 1776? The Signors spent the next two days revising until the document was accepted on the 4th.
- Jefferson wrote to his wife that the day should be celebrated with parades and pomp – July 2, that is? (He was only a little off)
- That John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, both signors of the Declaration, died on its 50th anniversary?
- That there are several celebrations in and near Albany where you can watch fireworks, enjoy food, enjoy live music and more!
Spend USA’s birthday at Price Chopper’s Homegrown 4th & Fireworks Festival in Albany, and spend the rest of your weekend at fireworks displays across the region!
