For those of you that don’t know, Twitter is an online social networking and microblogging service that allows users to send and read text-based posts that are limited to 140 characters or less. These posts are called tweets, and often include a link that leads to an article, photo, video or another fragment of media. Many people use Twitter to ‘stay connected‘ with friends, industry experts, celebrities and world news.
Crush FM’s Five Best People to Follow on Twitter in The Albany Area:
- Nippertown (@Nippertown): “They do a good job covering events across the spectrum of things – art, entertainment, weather, and news.”
- Albany.com Albany NY (@albanydotcom): “…these guys are the ultimate in event listings. Albany dot com always
keeps us up to speed on everything from Billy Joel coming to the TU
Center to the opening of a spaghetti museum. Well, if there was one,
they’d Tweet it’s open.” - keepalbanyboring (@keepalbboring): “…they do a great job of event coverage and other oddities from the Albany area.”
- All Over Albany (@alloveralbany): “…they have so much quality information to share and often they find the
most quirky things you’d never think of to talk about but they make them
fascinating.” - NEWS10 (@WTEN): “… they also have some genuine fun on their Twitter – sometimes then
mention their weekly newsroom feasts and share links to images. In radio
we are all personality but the more serious nature of news reporting
sometimes allows the public to forget that TV employees are people too
and WTEN does a great job of giving a look behind the curtain.”

I joined Twitter last year, and I’m hooked. I get 95% of my news from twitter, either by following news sources or viewing trending topics. I also enjoy interacting with radio and television shows, some of which even read your tweets on the air!
The best part about the service is the fact that you customize what information is being fed to you. You pick who you want to follow, who you want to receive updates from. If you don’t like what you are reading, or are being bombarded with too much information, you can just unfollow the account and you’ll never hear from them again!
Are you on Twitter? If you are, follow us @albanydotcom! If you’re not, are you considering joining in on the fun? If you are totally anti-Twitter, why?
