Mayor Jerry Jennings, the City of Albany and the Tulip Festival Committee seek nominations for the 2012 Tulip Queen. If you know a young lady who has a big heart (and meets the qualifications spelled out by the City), nominate her for Albany’s next Tulip Queen!
According to the City of Albany Office of Special Events & Volunteer Services, the Tulip Queen must meet the following qualifications:
Nominees must have a strong sense of community, be knowledgeable of Albany, and possess leadership skills. Eligible nominees are women between the ages of 18 and 23 who have never been married. They must reside in Albany County for the entire year of reign (May 2012 – May 2013). www.albanytulipqueen.com explores the accomplishments these extraordinary women are capable of achieving.
The Tulip Queen will be awarded a $5000 scholarship, and each court member will receive a $1500 scholarship award upon completion of the year of reign.
The Tulip Queen & Court members will serve as Albany’s ambassadors for one full year of reign. These ambitious young women will place a major focus on the Mayor Jerry Jennings Literacy Campaign and spend hundreds of hours promoting the value of reading to children. Each Tulip Court develops initiatives to further this goal.
