Starting in the 1960s in the Peruvian
Amazon, largely poor, indigenous oil-boom workers mashed up the Afro-Caribbean
rhythms of Colombian cumbia with Peruvian indigenous music and surf and
psychedelic guitar riffs from the United States. Now, Brooklyn band Chicha
Libre is updating it for our era at The Linda.
Black Sun – March 15 | 8:00 p.m.
Vocalist Cassandra Wilson’s unique approach to incorporating vintage
blues, country and folk music into jazz reaches an even higher level of
creativity with her new “Black Sun” project featuring the band ‘Harriet
Tubman’ at The Egg.
