Celebrate 26 years of free global music with the Music Haven Concert Series kicking off this weekend! Throughout the summer, this six-concert series will bring together sounds from all over the world (Peru, Indonesia, and even Albany!) All of the concerts will take place in Schenectady’s Central Park in the Music Haven every Sunday at 7:00 pm.
Check out the line-up for this summer’s series:
Enjoy the sounds of this Lima-based seven-piece band that perfectly blends traditional, authentic South American music with classic dance beats for a unique groovy sound.
July 12th – Red Baraat with the Hot Tamale Brass Band
Pulsating rhythms and a Bhangra-inflected sound will fill the air at Central Park on Sunday, July 12th. This Indian-influenced music ensemble is not a show you’ll want to miss!
July 19th – Steeleye Span with Ulster Landing
Steeleye Span and Ulster Landing will have you rocking out on a Sunday evening! The six-piece British folk-rock band is led by the angelic voice of Maddy Prior.
July 26th – Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni ba with Baye Kouyate
The fourth concert of the season features sounds from West Africa. The ngoni, an ancient traditional flute will be heard throughout the evening.
Come see Joey Alexander, an 11-year old Indonesian jazz piano prodigy alongside the Schenectady Community College Combo. Joey will be in the area supporting his debut album, My Favorite Things.
August 9th – Felicia Collins & The Life
Our very own Felicia Collins is returning to the Capital Region on August 9th! Longtime guitarist of “The Late Show with David Letterman” will be performing alongside The Life.
While the Music Haven in Schenectady’s Central Park is the perfect place to catch outdoor music during a warm summer evening, you can still enjoy the music during rainy weather! Proctor’s Theatre will be the rain site for all performances during the Music Haven Concert Series shows.
