Summer is officially upon us in the Capital Region! With the warm, sunny weather also comes a ton of fun events taking place in and around Albany throughout the season. Family Fun
Saturday & Sunday
- Anyone can fish in New York State waters without a fishing license this Friday and Saturday. Take advantage of the beautiful weather, gather the family and spend the day out on the water during Free Fishing Days!
Friday
- Head to Troy for this month’s Red. White & Blue Troy Night Out! From 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm stores, vendors and restaurants will all feature special deals and activities to coincide with this month’s theme.
- The famous Jumpin’ Jacks fireworks display is also taking place on Friday evening starting at 7:00 pm. Grab a delicious bite to eat, sit back and enjoy the show! The U.S. Water Ski Show Team will perform on the Mohawk at 7:00 pm with the Snook Bros Band starting at 8:00 pm.
Saturday
- Baseball, BBQ, fireworks and kids get in free? It’s Texas Night and GE Kids in Free at the Tri-City ValleyCats game on Saturday evening! Courtesy of GE, children 12 and under get in free with a paying adult. Note, tickets for Kids in Free must be purchased over the phone or at the Box Office.
- Step back in time to one of the most tumultuous times in American History – the Civil War. Live history educators will host demonstrations such as black smithing, an Abraham Lincoln exhibit and more at the Civil War Living History Day! Admission is $5.00 for adults, free for children and students at the Mabee Farm.
Live Music
Friday
- Snook Bros will be performing live at Freedom Park in Scotia as part of the free summer concert series. The performance will begin at 7:00 pm.
Saturday
- Do not miss Garland Jeffreys & Band performing at the Linda on Saturday evening at 8:00 pm. Noted as the sound of New York, this confessional singer-songerwriter is not a musician you’ll want to miss playing live.
- Flux Pavilion, a dubstep pioneer will be at Upstate Concert Hall on Saturday. Get ready to dance all night long, this artist is known for his chart topping electronic beats.
Sunday
- Swing by Schenectady’s Central Park on Sunday evening for the Music Haven Concert Series featuring NOVALIMA with Maria Zemantauski and GX3+. It will be an evening filled with authentic South American music with dance beats for a groove-laden sound.
- The Legendary Characters will be performing at Freedom Park for free on Sunday evening starting at 7:00 pm.
For the Foodies
- Get your grill on at this fun cooking class at Market Bistro on Friday night. Learn how to make your own delicious grilled pizzas including shrimp scampi white pizza, meat lovers with meatballs and sausage and grilled portobello mushroom and pesto pizza. Wine will also be served! Don’t miss out on this fun class, register today.
- Paint, sip and EAT at Canvas, Corks and Forks on Friday night. Paint a fun peacock feather and help yourself to the complimentary mac n’ cheese bar!

Get Outside
- Start your Saturday off right and head to Washington Park on Saturday morning for a free yoga class from 10:00 am – 11:00 am.
