In an effort to cut down on the amount of intersection crashes, the City of Albany has officially implemented its use of red light cameras throughout the area. The cameras have been proved to modify driver behavior which will reduce the number of accidents that take place due to running red lights. We’ve gathered all the information you need to know about the red light cameras in Albany. Check it out:

This state of the art system will help improve traffic flow, encourage safer driving and will be funded completely by violators. City officials have released more information as to how to properly proceed through intersections that have red light cameras:
When you make a right turn:
- If the intersection permits right turns on red, come to a complete stop at the stop bar, then proceed to turn.
- If the intersection does not permit rights on red, stay at a complete stop until the light turns green to avoid a violation.
When you make a left turn:
- Have you ever experienced the stress of being under a green light trying to turn left and the light turns red? If the light changes to red and you are still in the middle of the intersection, you can proceed with your left hand turn.
What happens if you run a red light?
- A picture will be taken of your license plate.
- The Albany Police Department will review the footage and determine if a ticket should be given.
- If a violation did take place, the owner of the vehicle will receive a $50 ticket in the mail.
