UAlbany has renamed their two year old football and soccer stadium after receiving a $10 million gift from The Bernard and Millie Children’s Foundation.
The foundation was set up by 1975 UAlbany graduate William Duker, his wife, Sharon (Casey) Duker and their son, William “West” Duker. After receiving the generous donation, the university renamed the stadium Tom & Mary Casey Stadium after Sharon Duker’s parents.
Sharon Duker told the Times Union, “We are pleased to play some role in providing more students the opportunity to benefit from Albany’s academic and athletic excellence. We have chosen to honor my parents, Tom and Mary Casey, because they stressed the importance of education, not only in education achieved through academics but also one gained through athletics. Just like on the field, classroom studies require determination, teamwork, leadership and healthy competition.”
The gift is the largest in the school’s history, surpassing the $5.25 million donation given by the Massry family to the School of Business last year.
